New builds, handovers and holiday houses

Armstrong Creek, Charlemont and Mount Duneed are full of houses under two years old, and nearly every one was handed over on a builder’s key. Painters, tilers, electricians and the site supervisor all had a copy at some point, and nobody knows where those went.

Torquay and Jan Juc have the opposite problem: houses that sit empty midweek and fill up with guests at the weekend. Keypad locks solve that outright — a code per guest, a different code for the cleaner, and no key handed to anyone.

Armstrong Creek and Torquay questions

I've just moved into a new build. Do I really need to change the locks?
You don't need to replace the hardware — but rekeying it is worth doing. Every trade through that site had a key at some stage, and builder's keys get copied and handed around. Rekeying makes all of them useless and keys the whole house to one new key. It's a fraction of the cost of new locks.
Can you set up guest codes for an Airbnb?
Yes. A keypad lock with a separate code per guest and another for the cleaner, set up on your phone so you can change them yourself between stays. No key handed over and nothing to collect afterwards.
Do you work with builders before handover?
Yes — locks cut into new doors, keyed alike across a site, and handed over on the builder's schedule rather than mine.
How far is Torquay for you?
