Lock change questions
Should I rekey or replace my locks?
If the hardware is in good condition, rekeying is quicker and cheaper — the locks stay, the old keys stop working. Replace when the lock is worn, damaged, or you want a higher security standard than what's on the door.
Can you make all my doors take one key?
Yes. Keying alike is the single most popular thing I do. Front, back, garage and shed all running one key, cut to as many copies as you need.
I've just moved in. Is it worth changing the locks?
You have no way of knowing how many keys are floating around from the previous owner, tradies or old tenants. A rekey is cheap insurance on the day you get the keys.
Do you fit insurance-approved deadlocks?
Yes. Plenty of policies expect key-operated deadlocks on external doors and keyed locks on accessible windows. I'll tell you what your doors actually need rather than selling you a house full of hardware.
How long does a lock change take?
A straight swap is usually 20 to 30 minutes a door. A full house of keyed-alike locks is generally an hour or two.
